TD Rewards Credit Card Offers for Summer 2024

TD has just unveiled the Summer 2024 credit card offers for its suite of TD Rewards credit cards.

After a few months with an elevated offer, we’ve seen a drop to the welcome bonus on the TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card this time around, although still with a first-year annual fee rebate.

The current offers on the TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card and the TD Platinum Travel Visa* Card are available until September 3, 2024. As for the TD Rewards Visa* Card, the offer is available until January 6, 2025.

TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card: Up to 75,000 TD Rewards Points

The new welcome bonus on the TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card is for up to 75,000 TD Rewards Points, which is down from the previous offer of up to 100,000 points and further down from the record-high of 135,000 TD Rewards Points.

Fortunately, you’ll also enjoy an annual fee rebate for the first year,† which means you can test drive the card without any out-of-pocket expenses in year one.

To earn the full welcome bonus, you’ll have to meet the following conditions:

  • Earn 20,000 TD Rewards Points upon making your first purchase
  • Earn an additional 55,000 TD Rewards Points upon spending $5,000 in the first 180 days of account opening

If you spread out the spending over the course of six months, it works out to be around $833 per month. This should be a reasonable amount for many households, and you can boost your balance further by targeting spending in a category with a bonus.

As a reminder, the category earning rates on this card are as follows:

  • 8 TD Rewards Points per dollar spent on eligible Expedia® for TD purchases
  • 6 TD Rewards Points per dollar spent on eligible groceries and dining purchases
  • 4 TD Rewards Points per dollar spent on eligible regularly recurring bill payments set up on your account
  • 2 TD Rewards Points per dollar spent on all other eligible purchases

It’s worth noting that there’s a $25,000 annual cap for the total amount spent on groceries, dining, and recurring bill payments. Once you’ve reached that threshold, the earning rate drops down to the base rate of 2 TD Rewards Points per dollar spent.

Some of the card’s other features include:

  • 10% anniversary bonus of TD Rewards Points earned over the past 12 months, up to 10,000 points
  • $100 annual TD Travel Credit upon spending $500 (CAD) on lodging expenses booked with Expedia® for TD
  • Strong insurance coverage

If you’d like to keep the costs down year-after-after, consider a TD Unlimited or All-Inclusive chequing account, which will waive the annual fee on one TD credit card of your choice, including the TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card, on an ongoing basis.

Otherwise, the annual fee for this card is $139, beginning in year two, since it’s rebated for the first year with this offer.

Supplementary cards cost $50 apiece, and the current first-year fee rebate also applies to the first supplementary cardholder.

The TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite Card requires either $60,000 in annual personal income, or $100,000 in annual household income, to qualify.

To be eligible for this offer, you must apply and be approved for the card before September 3, 2024.

TD Platinum Travel Visa* Card: Up to 50,000 TD Rewards Points

The welcome bonus on the TD Platinum Travel Visa* Card is unchanged this time around, and remains steady at 50,000 TD Rewards Points with a first-year annual fee rebate. The offer is available for applications that have been approved by September 3, 2024.

The breakdown of the welcome bonus is as follows:

  • Earn 15,000 TD Rewards Points upon making your first purchase
  • Earn an additional 35,000 TD Rewards Points upon spending $1,000 in the first 90 days

Aside from the welcome bonus, you’ll enjoy the following earning rates with the TD Platinum Travel Visa* Card:

  • 6 TD Rewards Points per dollar spent on eligible Expedia® for TD purchases
  • 4.5 TD Rewards Points per dollar spent on eligible groceries and dining purchases
  • 3 TD Rewards Points per dollar spent on eligible regularly recurring bill payments set up on your account
  • 1.5 TD Rewards Points per dollar spent on all other eligible purchases

As you can see, the earning rates are a step down from those on the TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card; however, if you don’t qualify for the higher-tier card, then you can still get a decent return on spending in any of the boosted categories.

There’s a $15,000 annual cap for the total amount spent on groceries, dining, and recurring bill payments, before rewards on spending drop to the base rate.

The annual fee is $89, which is rebated for the first year under this offer, and it can be easily waived in subsequent years with an eligible bank account.

There’s no minimum income requirement to apply for this card.

TD Rewards Visa* Card: 15,152 TD Rewards Points

The TD Rewards Visa* Card is TD’s entry-level offering, and comes without an annual fee. This offer is available for applications that have been approved by January 6, 2025.

The welcome bonus is unchanged this time around, and you’ll earn 15,152 TD Rewards points. All you need to do is spend $500 within 90 days of Account opening to maximize the offer.

With the points earned from the welcome bonus, you can redeem them for up to $50 in eligible Amazon purchases.†

For a credit card with no annual fee, the earning rates are quite competitive, and are structured as follows:

  • 4 TD Rewards Points per dollar spent on eligible Expedia® for TD purchases
  • 3 TD Rewards Points per dollar spent on eligible groceries and dining purchases
  • 2 TD Rewards Points per dollar spent on eligible regularly recurring bills set up on your account
  • 1 TD Rewards Point per dollar spent on all other eligible purchases

There’s a $5,000 annual cap for the total amount spent on groceries, dining, and recurring bill payments, before the rewards on spending drop to the base rate.

This is surely one of the more competitive options amongst Canada’s best no-fee credit cards.

There’s no minimum income requirement for this card.

Conclusion

TD often puts out competitive welcome bonuses on its suite of credit cards, and this time around, there are some solid ways to boost your TD Rewards Points balance.

TD Rewards Points are a great points currency to use for aspects of travel, such as independent hotels, cruises, and vacation packages, that are otherwise difficult to book with points.

Be sure to apply and be approved for the above cards by the respective ending dates of either September 3, 2024, or January 6, 2025.
