Although I’d consider myself an expert in the trends department, when it comes to shopping for swimwear, what’s considered “in” is shockingly the least of my concerns. With swimsuits costing upwards of $200 for a matching top and bottoms, not only do I need them to fit like second-skin, I need them to, at the very least, get me through the next dozen vacations. But with summer around the corner (it snuck up on me, too), I have to admit: 2025’s swimwear finds are shaping up to be the best I’ve seen in years. In fact, they’re so good, I may need to ditch my go-to black swimsuit for—drumroll please—a pop of color (daring, I know).
On spring/ summer 2025 runways, beachwear-centered looks took center stage. At Chloé, retro, two-piece swimwear was layered under tailored jackets; at Miu Miu, sporty, color-blocked one-pieces were paired with pleated bottoms. If I’m going to splurge on a new one-piece, I might as well make sure that it can also double as a summer top with a linen skirt or pair of denim shorts. In the same vein, this year’s trends have already trickled down to mainstream retailers in the form of reinvented prints, updated silhouettes, and unexpected embellishments.
Ahead, I’m diving into (pun intended) this summer’s most popular swimwear trends, plus sharing the best swimwear to shop now.
1. Bold Florals
While a floral swimsuit isn’t exactly groundbreaking, this year’s florals are a fun nod to the ’70s and ’80s. (Think: hand-painted, wallpaper-inspired designs.) Watercolor florals are exclusively seen in bright, almost-neon colors that pay homage to old-school Miami beach vibes, whereas retro florals are most widely seen in muted, dusty shades like washed-out beige and faded teal.
2. Crochet
On the heels of the rise of nonconformist style, we’re seeing more pieces produced in natural materials—swimwear included. It proves the point that, beyond color or print, texture is still capable of making a splash (literally). This year’s textural take is portrayed mostly through crocheted bikinis as well as a handful of options with intricate beadwork and kitschy embellishments.
3. Petal Cups
If soft aesthetics are your vibe, you’ll love this ultra-feminine, trending swimwear silhouette. Barely there, shell-like tops accentuate the bust in a playful, romantic way, and—perhaps best of all—pair well with just about any style of bottom. On this season’s petal-cup docket are ruched, color-blocked, and embellished options galore.
4. Color-Blocked
Color-blocked suits are one of the most-talked about trends for the season for their uncanny ability to bridge the gap between beachwear and streetwear. Perhaps the most obvious color-blocked choice is a black-and-white suit, but if you’re looking for something a bit more fun, this season’s options extend to bold color combinations, too.
5. Irregular Stripes
However season-less they may be, stripes feel most synonymous with summer. As it pertains to swimwear, though, this season is less about classic Breton-style stripes and more about irregular, multi-directional stripes. Beyond the usual red and navy motifs, this year’s striped suits are being offered in an array of colorful tones that are worth giving a shot.
6. One-Pieces
A swimsuit with coverage? Say less. Unlike the Speedo-style versions of our yesteryears, today’s one-pieces pack an insanely chic punch. Choose between open-back, low-cut, or high-shine for a suit that you can wear to the beach, but also throw a cover-up over to head straight to happy hour in after. Though you could never go wrong with black, it’s the frilly, bustier-style type that I can’t get enough of.
