Why Omarosa Was 'Missing' During Certain Chunks of Time on 'Got to Get Out'

While watching Hulu’s Got to Get Out, viewers might notice Omarosa missing at certain points — and there’s a reason for that.

“Behind the scenes, my situation was really unique. I was in law school when they pitched a show and I told them I couldn’t do it,” Omarosa, 51, exclusively revealed to Us Weekly. “Because this is my last year in law school. So they worked with me so that I was able to do my classes four hours a day.”

Omarosa would then “sneak away” into a “walk-in closet,” adding, “I would be doing class. I was able to join Zoom and do my homework. So it was really difficult for me to balance the two. The game is going on, but I’m so close to the end of my legal education.”

Despite wanting to make it to the finish line on screen, Omarosa “couldn’t risk” her schooling.

“If I hadn’t passed that class, I would not be graduating law school next month,” she shared. “So for me, I had different challenges than other people. And the viewers may or may not see me missing in some of the action. It’s because I was literally in this walk-in closet online trying to pass contract law and federal jurisdiction while competing in a reality show.”

Omarosa Explains Why She Was Missing During Certain Key Moments on Got to Get Out

Got to Get Out, which started streaming Friday, April 11, follows a mix of reality TV contestants and non-celebrities living together in a mansion for 10 days while they compete in physical and mental challenges for $1 million in prize money.

The Hulu series is the newest reality series that Omarosa has participated in. Before joining Got to Get Out, Omarosa rose to stardom while participating on The Apprentice, The Surreal Life, Big Brother, House of Villains and more.

“I was really excited about doing the show. I’m celebrating 20 years in reality TV so I gave my agent a challenge. I wanted him to find something that was exciting, that people would be talking about and that really would challenge me,” she recalled. “I told him some of the shows that I loved in the past. We love Big Brother and we love the competitiveness of The Apprentice, and my favorite one was Fear Factor. But the one thing that I loved about that show was the strategy, the physicality and all the twists and turns.”

Omarosa continued: “My agent called me to pitch the show and told me the concept. I thought, ‘That’s it. That’s the show I’m going to do to celebrate my 20th anniversary in reality TV.’ And here we are trying to stick it out for a million dollars.”

Speaking of the prize money, Omarosa was one of several winners from the first season, but how quickly will she see the money?

“I think Disney is good for the money,” she joked with Us. “I don’t expect that they’re going to stiff me. I play about a lot of things but I do not play about my money. It’s serious business with me, and I trust Hulu and I’m glad to be in a partnership with them. I’m grateful. They made a lot of concessions for me to be a part of the show.”

Omarosa also enjoyed the way Got to Get Out challenged her, adding, “I had to evolve my game. The one disadvantage that the reality TV legends had is that they know how we play. I’ve been on a hundred reality shows. You pretty much can get my strategy. So I had to find another way to play because these guys weren’t going to give me their clue[s]. They weren’t giving me their strategy. They weren’t trusting that I was going to split the money with them.”

After assessing the situation, Omarosa had “to find a clever way” to “advance” her game.

“A big part of that was using my skills of observation. I just started to track people throughout the house and [do] surveillance on the people who I believed had the clues. Then ultimately it was about getting as physical as they did: jumping out of windows and going out of doors,” she explained. “I have the record for the most runs in the house and the most attempts for escapes because I just started pulling intel and using my skills.”

Got to Get Out is currently streaming on Hulu.
